Premier League big boys on alert as Alonso looks to leave Madrid

Waving goodbye to the Bernabeu?
The all conquering Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso looks set to turn down a new two contract extension at Real Madrid in order to leave the Bernabeu next summer.

The former Liverpool midfielder - who has won the European Championship in 2008 and 2012, the World Cup in 2010, a Champions League with Liverpool and the La Liga title with Real Madrid last season - will see his contract expire in two years.

Alonso is now 30 years old and his value will be depreciating rapidly and with Madrid not short of midfield options they could be willing to let one of their prized assets leave.

The Premier League's big boys are on alert and Alonso's former club Liverpool would be interested in bringing him back to Anfield after selling him to Madrid in 2009. Both Manchester clubs as well as Arsenal would also be tempted to make a bid for the exceptional midfielder.
